On keeping a website

There is something quietly radical about owning your own corner of the internet. Not renting space on a platform whose terms can change overnight, not feeding content into an algorithm that will bury it, but just — having a place. A page that loads because you put it there.

This site is that place for me.

I built it by hand, which means I understand how it works. I can change anything. If I want the font to be different next year, or the layout to feel like something else entirely, I can do that. No subscription required.

The web used to be full of sites like this. Personal pages with weird sidebars and guestbooks and lists of things people liked. Most of that got swept away by social networks that were easier and shinier. But easier isn’t always better. The platforms made publishing frictionless by making it homogenous.

This is my attempt at something different.
